I had stated that my presence in England is solely due to ill-health. It will be gathered that I am decidedly of the opinion to the effect that his Excellency could see no reason why I should retire on the grounds of ill-health. Neither do I.
3. Two points were specially alluded to:
(a) my possible removal to another Colony;
(b) my possible pension on retirement owing to ill-health.
The first point (a) was submitted in my letter of the 30th April, and was dealt with in your reply dated 5th June.
4. As to the second point, I have consulted J. C. Gage Brown, C.M.G., and his opinion, which I personally consider it advisable to follow, is that I should be allowed to return to Hong Kong, and take my leave for which I have applied, so as to avoid the most unhealthy and dangerous part of the year as regards climate.
5. Having only obtained a certificate for vacation leave, I beg to submit a report of the leave already received.
